
Video based Social Media is a great opportunity to drive your brand or to sell a product.
Having a video website yourself is not necessary, YouTube gives you a great opportunity to use theirs. Remember YouTube is the world's second largest search engine, each day more people search YouTube than search on Bing and Yahoo combined.
Individual product videos are now being included in Google's organic search results from Youtube. Bing also list them as a normal search results.
There are 2 benefits from using this strategy:
Major search engines are crawling social sites like YouTube, MySpace and Facebook looking for mentions of your company. The more positive messages it finds about your brand then the more "social points" you get, and the higher your site will be ranked. These mentions could be a Youtube video with a 5 star ranking and/or a lot of views, a Facebook or MySpace page with a lot of friends, a Twitter account with a lot of followers etc
We used to use Revver and MetaCafe, however I dont often see these sites being listed in organic search results any more. There is no doubt however that you should distribute your videos as widely as possible - this is called syndication. The more mentions of your brand that the crawlers find, the more highly you will rank. We do then recommend a variety of sites including MySpace, Facebook, Metacafe, Revver and Veoh.
Fortunately you do not need to load your videos to each of these sites - there are syndication services available that will do it for you. They will even provide metrics on number of views and (for a price) demographics, geographics and engagement.
